For GroupMe groups with a calendar

Your group's schedule, in the calendar you already use.

One person connects the GroupMe group. Everyone else taps a link. Practices, games, and meetings show up in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook and stay up to date on their own.

Members need no account Updates itself Read-only, private link

Connect your group

Takes about two minutes. You must already be a member of the GroupMe group. GroupMe will text you a sign-in code.

CalendarJack is invite-only while it is small. No code yet? Ask for one. You sign in on GroupMe itself. We never see your password.

How it works

If you run the group

  1. Paste your invite code and tap Connect GroupMe.
  2. Sign in on GroupMe. Enter the code GroupMe texts you.
  3. Confirm it is your account, then pick the group.
  4. Send the private link to the group. Done.

If you are in the group

  1. Open the link the organizer sent.
  2. Tap Add to Apple Calendar, or follow the Google or Outlook steps.
  3. That is all. No account, no GroupMe login, nothing to install.

What happens after

New events appear

When someone adds or changes an event in GroupMe, your calendar picks it up. Most calendar apps check every few hours.

Cancelled events leave

Cancel it in GroupMe and it drops off everyone's calendar on the next refresh. Nobody has to delete anything by hand.

You stay in control

The organizer can turn off a link, make a new one, or delete the calendar at any time. Members never see your GroupMe account.

Questions

Does everyone in the group have to do this?

No. One person connects. Everyone else only opens a link and adds the calendar. They never touch GroupMe or CalendarJack settings.

Why does GroupMe text me a code?

GroupMe asks for a code whenever you sign in from a new browser. That is GroupMe's security step, not ours. Enter it once and you are through. If a code does not arrive, wait a while before trying again. GroupMe limits how many it sends.

Can members change or delete events?

No. The calendar is read-only. Events are edited in GroupMe, and the calendar follows.

Is it only for GroupMe?

GroupMe is the first source. CalendarJack exists to take schedules from places that do not connect to calendars and put them in the one you already use. More sources are coming.

What do you store?

Your GroupMe account identifier, an encrypted access token, the group you chose, and a short cache of its events. Never your password. See the privacy page.
