You sign in on Google, Microsoft or GroupMe itself. We never see your password. Signed in before? The same button signs you back in.

How it works

If you run the group

  1. Tap Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft. No account with either? Tap Continue with GroupMe.
  2. If you signed in with Google or Microsoft, connect GroupMe next. Enter the PIN code GroupMe texts you.
  3. Pick the group. CalendarJack makes the calendar link.
  4. Send the private link to the group. Done.

If you are in the group

  1. Open the link the organizer sent.
  2. Tap Add to Apple Calendar, or follow the Google or Outlook steps. No account needed. Or sign in once, and CalendarJack adds the calendar for you.
  3. That is all. Nothing to install.

What happens after

New events appear

People add and change events in GroupMe. CalendarJack sees them within 5 minutes. A calendar you added by signing in gets them as soon as CalendarJack sees them.

A calendar you added without signing in gets them on its next refresh. Apple usually refreshes within an hour. Outlook refreshes within a few hours. Google can take up to a day.

Cancelled events leave

Cancel it in GroupMe and it drops off everyone's calendar on the next refresh. Nobody has to delete anything by hand.

You stay in control

Past events stay on the calendar for good, so the season's history is always there. The organizer can turn off a link, make a new one, or delete the calendar at any time.

Questions

Does everyone in the group have to do this?

No. One person connects. Everyone else only opens a link and adds the calendar. They never touch GroupMe or CalendarJack settings.

Why does GroupMe text me a PIN code?

GroupMe asks for a PIN code whenever you sign in from a new browser. That is GroupMe's security step, not ours. Enter it once and you are through. If a code does not arrive, wait a while before trying again. GroupMe limits how many it sends.

Google Calendar can add a link itself. Why this?

When you sign in, events arrive within minutes instead of Google's once-a-day refresh. Cancelled events drop off. One link works for Apple Calendar, Google Calendar and Outlook. Nothing is retyped.

Can members change or delete events?

No. The calendar is read-only. You edit events in GroupMe. The calendar follows.

Is it only for GroupMe?

GroupMe is the first event app. CalendarJack takes schedules from places that do not reach a calendar and puts them in the one you already use. More event apps are coming.

What do you store?

CalendarJack stores:

  • Your GroupMe account identifier.
  • An encrypted GroupMe access token.
  • The encrypted name and email address of each connected account.
  • The groups you chose, and their events.
  • Your Google account identifier and an encrypted refresh token.
  • Your Microsoft account identifier and an encrypted refresh token.

CalendarJack never stores your password. It never stores your messages.

You can delete your account at any time from your calendars page. That deletes all of it. See the privacy page.
